February President's Letter
Are you in love with your business?
I am … for the most part. I love working in a people-oriented service industry, in a field that makes a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults. I love providing employment for (mostly) women who work hard every day to support themselves and serve our clients. I love working with my love; partnering with my husband continues to be rewarding and enjoyable for us both. I love the connections I’ve made in the community and through organizations such as WEO, where I meet new people every week and learn about their business love lives.
This isn’t to say it’s all rosy all the time. Sure, there are new payroll taxes and industry regulations to learn and implement, and we’re due for a state survey this spring, so there’s preparation for that. Managing personnel isn’t always grand either; cold and flu season has been a challenge this year. When the buck stops (literally) at your feet, your friends and family pay the price as you miss another meal to take care of another situation.
But would we have it any other way? Nope. Entrepreneurship is this crazy, wonderful, messy, frustrating, exciting, stressful thrill ride that keeps us on our toes, keeps us guessing and keeps us coming back for more.
February is a wonderful month, perfectly positioned between the post-holiday letdown and the surge of springtime. Four sweet weeks to focus on who and what we love. If you’re like me, you could use a bit of inspiration this time of year. A good story, some words of wisdom, the chance to be reminded of why you chose this beautiful, hard road; all this and more awaits us at this month’s WEO meeting. I hope you’ll be there, I’d love to see you!
